PSU’s Dean Flowers absolved of involvement in tire burning affair

Posted: Friday, May 7, 2021. 11:43 am CST.

By Aaron Humes: An attempt to finger First Vice President of the Public Service Union (PSU) Dean Flowers in cases of tire burning along the major highways as obstructions this week has backfired, according to his boss Gerald Henry.

On Wednesday, Henry had said he would get in touch with Flowers after hearing from us for the first time that he was being accused of setting a fire on the George Price Highway and inadvertently leaving his Social Security card at the scene.

On Thursday morning before entering the Joint Unions’ meeting with the Government, Henry told us it would be easy to prove whether Flowers was there and because Flowers could show Henry, that he had his card on him, the charge was a lie.

“It’s ridiculous to put out these things that can be proven so easily; I don’t know why it is that they felt…and then they are the ones that end up looking ridiculous because it is so easy to prove. They always say you can’t prove a lie, and obviously from our side it’s a blatant lie and the issue of trying to bring down one of our leaders who has been very outspoken,” concluded Henry.

The unions have disavowed similar actions such as the blocking of the Belcan Bridge by burning tires in 2016, although they physically obstructed various passageways countrywide a few weeks ago as part of their pre-industrial action phase, observed by Police.
