St. Vincent & the Grenadines lowers alert level at the La Soufriere Volcano to orange

Posted: Friday, May 7, 2021. 11:35 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Cabinet of St. Vincent and the Grenadines decided on Thursday to lower the Volcano Alert Level from Red to Orange reported NBCSVG.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced the cabinet decision on the Eyeing La Soufriere Morning Edition on Thursday.

NBCSVG reported that Gonsalves said that despite the alert level now being Orange, persons would not be allowed into the Red Zone, unless the authorities allow them to do so.

Gonsalves said the conditions in the Red Zone are still dangerous.

On Thursday as well, volcano seismologist, Roderick Stewart, said La Soufriere had been quiet over the previous 24 hours, with just a few earthquakes being recorded.

Stewart stressed that the Scientists will assess all the issues relating to safety, before attempting a trip to the summit of La Soufriere Volcano.
