By Zoila Palma: On Friday, the United States State department spokesman, Ned Price issued a statement calling for Taiwan to be allowed to participate at the World Health Assembly.

The U.S. spokesman said that due to Taiwan’s contributions to global health, it should be allowed to share its expertise.

“Taiwan’s outstanding control of Covid-19 and its donations of PPE demonstrate its strong contribution to global health. Taiwan has some of the world’s leading experts in combating this disease, and we need to hear from Taiwan at the World Health Assembly,” Price said.

The World Health Assembly is scheduled for May 24, and Taiwan has been blocked by Beijing, whose policy is the “one china” claiming that the island is part of its territory.

Taiwan has been hailed for its in-country COVID-19 response.
