Brandon Adolphus wins 1.5K, Ana Lopez wins 3K in BAA Trials at Marion Jones

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Brandon Adolphus and Ana Lopez, who have been winning virtual races week in and week out during the pandemic, won their races at the Belize Athletics Association Trials on Saturday, May 8.

Ana López won the 3,000 m in 12 minutes and 3 seconds while Lucelly Ramos was 2nd in 15:04.

López also won the 1,500m in 5:36.53 and the 800m in 2:48.47.

Brandon Adolphus won the 1500m in 4:22.92. Jordan Santos was 2nd in 4:46.77, Dorvan Campbell 3rd in 4:50.60, Kamrone Sainsbury 4th in 4:58.06, Ian Gordon 5th in 5:13.06.

Sama Havery 6th, Luis August 7th, and Juan Portillo 8th.

Adolphus also won the 5K race in 16 minutes and 57 seconds. Ian ‘Lion’ Gordon, who just completed his Run Around Belize, was second in 19:51 while Luis August finished 3rd in 20:47.

Mark Anderson was the fastest in the 100m clocking 10.94 seconds. He was followed by Jaheim Monsanto (2nd) in 11.02, Jihad Ahmad (3rd) in 11.16, Gary Neal (4th) in 11.25, and Fred Usher Jr (5th) in 11.39.

Raheim Monsanto recorded the fastest time in the 200m in 22.00secs. Gary Neal was 2nd in 22.39, Mark Anderson 3rd in 22.55, Tahj Reid 4th in 23:32 and Hance Card was 5th in 23.36.

The winner in the 400m was Linden Wade in 53.51 seconds. Mario Vivas was 2nd in 53.75, Jaheim Moguel was 3rd in 55.47, Francois Dujon finished 4th in 56.62, and Kian Trejo was 5th in 59.34.

Linden Wade also won the 800m in 2:11.06 followed by Amir Ramos with 2:14.05. 3rd place was taken by Christopher Broaster (2:17.04), Giovanni Baizar (2:18.28) was 4th, and Tayshaughn Meighan (2:34.03) finished 5th.

In the women’s long jump Michelle Thiessen did a 3.53m jump.

The men’s long jump was taken by Kareem Jenkins with 5.79m. Kerby Sutherland was 2nd (5.56m) while Joshua Mejia was 3rd (5.53m).

In discus, Canaan Smith won with a throw of 38.35 metres. In the women’s category, Mia Sylvester topped with a throw of 36.60 m. She was followed by Lionellie Myers with 30.40 m and Tikiyah Orosco with 19.17 m.
