Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel wins 1st official Weekend Warriors cycling race after COVID-19 one-year-plus lockdown

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel on Sunday morning won the 1st official Weekend Warriors cycling race after the nearly 14-month COVID-19 lockdown.

The 40-mile race organized by the Weekend Warriors’ Edison Usher was run on the John Smith Road from the Mile 8 roundabout on the George Price Highway to the Philip Goldson International Airport Road roundabout.

“Weekend Warriors racing is back in full effect,” Usher posted on Cycling Live Belize. “After over a year of being put on hold due to Covid pandemic, we are happy to host our first official event today.”

Gabourel, who came from San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, for the event, won the race in 1 hour 53 minutes.

Vallan Symns was 2nd, Eric Moralez was 3rd, Owen ‘Barney’ Brown 4h, and Kaya Cattouse was 5th.

Santino ‘Chief’ Castillo won the B Category followed by Kenneth Butler.

Jerome Wade Sr topped the C Category. Manuel Esquiliano was 2nd.

Kaya Cattouse won the Women’s Category followed by Nicole Gallego in 2nd position.
