By Zoila Palma: Today, the Minister of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, Andre Perez met with British High Commissioner in Belize, Claire Evans OBE.
Perez was accompanied by Kennedy Carrillo, Chief Executive Officer; Beverly Wade, Policy Planning Advisor, for the Ministry Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, and Chantalle Samuels, Chief Executive Officer at the Coastal Zone Management Authority & Institute.
The delegation also met virtually with UK’s Commonwealth Marine Economies (CME) Programme team to discuss the collaborative work on the Maritime Economy Plan (MEP) for Belize and how this plan may contribute to the Ministry’s Blue Economy strategy for Belize.
The United Kingdom delegation was led by Denise Holland, CME Programme Lead and Lee Davies, CME Programme Manager, representing the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO); Chris McDougall, CME Programme Technical Advisor; and Felipe Steigler, MEP Project Deputy, representing Atkins Ltd., the consulting firm developing the MEP with Belize.
Maxine Monsanto, Climate Change Policy Adviser at the British High Commission also attended the meeting.
“We look forward to the continued cooperation and partnership between the United Kingdom and Belize in this important area of enabling safe and sustainable marine economies,” a statement from the British High Commission said today.
