By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Minister of Agriculture, Fооd Ѕесurіtу, аnd Еntеrрrіѕе (MAFSE) Јоѕе Аbеlаrdо Маі continues his tour of the country this week with a visit to his own district of Orange Walk on Thursday and Friday.
After Orange Walk, Mai and his staff will only have the Corozal District left to visit having gone to the Stann Creek,Toledo, Belize and Cayo districts already.
Recently at the MAFSE Annual General Meeting, Minister Mai said agriculture plays a crucial role in our country, it provides food, jobs, and foreign exchange. He said the MAFSE can deliver on its commitments of producing enough food for the country and for export. He added that we need to continue strengthening our programs, our leadership and management, and that we need to develop better products.
It is to that end that he is touring the country with a delegation comprised of international agricultural partners, technical staff and operations staff of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fооd Ѕесurіtу, аnd Еntеrрrіѕе.
On Thursday, May 13, Mai will start the agriculture visit at the Carmelita Government School where he will present vegetable seedlings to the school and tour the Tilapia and School Garden facilities.
From there the Ministry of Agriculture tour goes to San Estevan where they’ll visit the model beef cattle farm of Manuel Vasquez. The third stop will be the Wall cheese factory in Shipyard.
On Friday, May 14, the Agriculture tour starts out at carrot farm in San Carlos which is well known for its pepper production.
They then move to Blue Creek where the Blue Creek Chamber of Commerce will make a presentation.
The third stop on Friday will be at the Caribbean Chicken processing plant.
The tour finishes on Friday afternoon with visits to August Pine Ridge and the Yo Creek Agricultural Station.
