Minister of State opens 2021 celebration of Education Week calling all stakeholders to action

Posted: Tuesday, May 11, 2021. 7:44 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: Today, Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science, and Technology, opened the 2021 celebration of Education Week with a call for all education stakeholders to do their part in ensuring that transformational education reaches all corners of Belize.

The week is being celebrated this year under the theme, “Reimagining the future: Education, Community, and Wellness.”

Zabaneh noted that there are over 102,000 students in over 620 educational institutions at various levels across the country and that the students themselves, their families, the teachers, principals, school managements, and even the Ministry of Education each have a unique role to play as the country’s education system goes through reformation.

“Students and parents are central to this reform process, as they are the primary agents and beneficiaries of our education services,” Zabaneh said. “Employers are also essential stakeholders who will help to guide us in the areas of relevance and effectiveness. Our graduates must be well prepared to hit the ground running in present and future industries.”

He stressed that the community at large, including community leaders, and other social partners, have a role to play, while challenging graduates to be positive contributors to social cohesion, taking up their responsibility to strengthen the country’s democracy and be citizens who promote sustainable human development through their individual and collective efforts.
