Belizean Charles Hogan, founder of the LA Warriors, passes away in LA

Posted: Thursday, May 13, 2021. 10:37 am CST.

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: “Charlie Hogan, legendary Belizean football player and coach, and founder of the LA Warriors, passed away last night in Los Angeles, California,” Belizean footballer Sylvian Lyons told Breaking Belize News (BBN)

Lyons, who has been working alongside Hogan with the LA Warriors football team for the past 16 years, said that Hogan died of COVID-19.

“Charlie was a great, great guy,” Lyons said. “Check any player who has come to LA and you will see. Ask them about Hogan and hear what they will tell you. He used to spend his own money on the team”

Lyons said Hogan, who was from Dangriga, was 19 or 20 when he migrated to the United States in 1973 [Amandala] and started the LA Warriors back in 1982.  Lyons said Logan was 68 years old.

The LA Warriors was a team made up primarily of Belizeans. Lyons said they played semipro football and later joined a B League in the Los Angeles area.

Lyons said the team has been inactive now because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rest in peace, Charlie Hogan.
