El Salvador sends 34,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Honduras

By Zoila Palma: El Salvador’s President, Nayib Bukele has sent 34,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to assist 7 towns in Honduras.

The plea for assistance was made by Mayors of the Honduran towns on social media.

The Associated Press reports that El Salvador has been more successful than neighboring Honduras and Guatemala in obtaining vaccine.

“When I saw your videos, what I saw was a little desperation,” Bukele said. “I said to the minister and the vaccine people in El Salvador: ‘How can we help?’”

Then, on Thursday morning, 7 refrigerated trucks left El Salvador for Honduras taking the doses of AstraZeneca vaccine.

One Honduran Mayor said in his video that their people are dying that the government is not responding to their pleas.

The towns are to divide the doses according to their populations.

Meanwhile, El Salvador has received 1.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines.
