Minister of Youth & Sports Kevin Bernard congratulates Carmelita Government School on their agriculture program

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Minister of Youth, Sports, E-Governance Kevin Bernard congratulated the Carmelita Government Primary School during the Minister of Agriculture, Fооd Ѕесurіtу, аnd Еntеrрrіѕе (MAFSE) Јоѕе Аbеlаrdо Маі to the Orange Walk school on Thursday, May 13.

“We need to ensure that our people grow what they eat and eat what they grow,” Minister Bernard said while delivering an address as guest speaker during the agricultural visit.

Minister Bernard extended congratulations to Keith Augustine, Principal of Carmelita Government School for the agriculture program at the school and the Ministries of Education and Agriculture for supporting the program.

“We need to work together,” added Minister Bernard.

The Carmelita Government School, which is in Bernard’s Orange Walk East Division, received seedlings from the MAFSE for their school garden project.

Like other rural schools, the Carmelita Government School has a school garden, but they also have a tilapia pond which is part of a program funded by the Milwoods Christian School of Canada.

After the official ceremonies, Bernard joined Mai and his staff on a tour of the Tilapia and School Garden facilities at the Carmelita Government School.
