By Benjamin Flowers: A Belizean who is a registered nurse working in the State of Florida, USA, has been acknowledged for excellence in her field by being named nurse of the year at her hospital.
On May 12, 2021, Julia Bowman, who is from Stann Creek District, Belize was awarded Nurse of the Year by Doctors Hospital of Baptist Health South Florida. She works in the Ambulatory Surgery Center Department of the hospital.
Bowman, who was raised in Pomona Valley, was born to Bryon Bowman and the late Maria Townsend. She attended Holy Angels Primary School, Ecumenical High School, and then moved to the US to continue her education in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, as well as a Corrective Action Preventive Action (CAPA) certification.
Following her graduation from Nursing School, Bowman began her journey working at medical facilities in the United States.
Bowman has been described as “an inspiration for her patients, family, and community,” and attributes much of her success to the foundation she received in Belize.
