By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Rough start for the Belize Men’s National Beach Soccer Team (BMNBST) falling 6-3 to Concacaf champions Mexico in the 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

Marlon Meza scored Belize’s first goal from a free-kick in the second half after the team trailed 3-0 to the Mexicans.

With the team down 6-1 at the beginning of the third period, Evan Mariano rallied and got the other two goals for the Belize national side.

Marlo Meza had a ‘chilena’ in the final 3rd but unfortunately his shot went wide.

Belize held off the Mexicans in the first nine minutes of the first period, but the pressure by the Concacaf Champions was intense and they gradually were able to get past Ruggeri Trejo in goal.

Trejo had a number of good saves.

The Concacaf tournament being played in Alajuela, Costa Rica from May 17-23, 2021, not only crowns regional champions but also qualifies two teams to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup.

Belize is in three-team Group A. Our team plays against Panama on tomorrow Tuesday, May 18.

Group B is comprised of El Salvador, Bahamas, Guatemala, and Dominican Republic

Group C is made up of United States, Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos Islands.
