By Benjamin Flowers: Forty-year-old Ronda Burgess died in a fatal road traffic accident over the weekend and authorities have served the driver of the vehicle, Orlindo Warren Young Jr., with a notice of intended prosecution following the incident.
The NIP states that Young could face charges for driving without due care and attention pending the outcome of an investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Joseph Myvett, explained that the accident happened on Saturday night between Miles 44-45 on the George Price Highway. Young reportedly tried to overtake a sugarcane truck but was unable to return into the lane because of another truck, belonging to the Santander Sugar Group which was parked partially on the shoulder of the road. Young eventually lost control of the vehicle and it flipped several times, injuring several passengers, including two children, and killing Burgess at the scene.
Myvett also said that police could not take any samples from Young to determine blood alcohol as he had a large cut wound from his head which was bleeding profusely when authorities arrived.
Investigations into the accident continue.
