By Zoila Palma: About 90,000 Indian doctors that have obtained medical degrees from Russia, China, and Ukraine are urging the Indian government to put them to work as the nation fights the deadly second wave.
The doctors want to help the country fight COVID-19 but are on stand-by for a local license, Reuters report.
India has become the new global epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic registering an increase in infections and over 4,000 deaths a day.
Meanwhile, doctors that received their degrees from other countries have to pass local exams in India before being allowed to practice.
Many of them are still waiting for their licenses.
Health experts say that India will soon face a shortage of medical staff in critical care units as the second wave takes its toll.
Indian officials say that the exams are mandatory because the doctors were not trained in India.
