By Aaron Humes: The Ramada Princess Hotel, owners of the Princess Casino on its premises in Belize City, issued a short statement this afternoon attempting to clear the air about the closedown of the casino over the weekend after 21 employees were tested and confirmed positive for COVID-19.
The facility was deep-cleaned and sanitized over the weekend, and those who have tested positive are in isolation.
The organization claims 80 percent, about four-fifths, of its staff were vaccinated, though it should be noted that the vaccine has two doses given about eight to 12 weeks apart.
It also emphasizes that all employees have been tested, which seems to suggest it will be reopened at some point, though it does not say when.
Casinos have been in operation countrywide for about a month despite concerns that they are more open to spreading the disease than other establishments. They have been effectively closed since the start of the pandemic.
