By Zoila Palma: COVID-19 cases continue to rise in India surpassing 25 million today.

Amidst the struggle to get the deadly second wave under control, the nation is also dealing with a powerful cyclone.

More than 200,000 people were tested on Monday as they were evacuated from Gujarat before the cyclone struck on Monday.

Those taken to homes have been given masks and officials are trying to enforce social distancing.

India’s total COVID-19 cases is now at 25.23 million and deaths rose by a record 4,329.

The official total death toll is 278,719.

Health experts fear that the highly infectious B.1.617 variant, first found in India, is out of control.

Almost 20 people have lost their lives in the storm which caused widespread devastation.

An official said that vaccinations will remain suspended until Wednesday.
