Ministry of Health and Wellness notifies of updated Statutory Instrument with new curfew and facemask amendments

Posted: Tuesday, May 18, 2021. 7:43 pm CST.

By Benjamin Flowers: The Ministry of Health and Wellness (MOHW) notified the public today, that the COVID-19 prevention protocols have been amended via Statutory Instrument (SI) No. 54 of 2021, which takes effect today.

This SI highlights amendments to two areas of the Public Health (Prevention of the Spread of Infectious Disease) (COVID-19) Regulations, 2021, which address the nightly curfew and the requirement to wear facemasks.

The new curfew hours are as follows: Sunday to Wednesday, during the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.; and Thursday to Saturday, during the hours of 12:00 midnight to 5:00 a.m.

“The SI also states that persons will not be required to wear a face mask or face covering when moving on a motorcycle, golf cart or any other similar motor vehicle,” the Ministry said.

The MOHW also reminded the public that other protocols such as maintaining physical distancing, frequent wash and sanitizing of hands, and proper wearing of face masks in public settings remain intact. The Ministry also pleaded with the public to remain at home, unless conducting essential business.
