By Aaron Humes: This week’s unwelcome news and the ongoing strike aside, the return of children to schools has been going swimmingly, according to Minister of Education Francis Fonseca.
He said in a press briefing that he has been receiving regular pictures from schools countrywide showing children at play and especially in conversation, which teachers say the kids miss the most.
There are plans to complete graduation on time as well as preparation for CXC examinations, for which about 2,500 Belizean students will sit, the strike notwithstanding.
Fonseca says his Ministry has no regrets about the process it used to re-open schools when he sees these pictures.
Schools are expected to re-open in the usual time frame of August and September though the matter is in discussion with authorities including the Teachers’ Union.
