By Zoila Palma: We have heard many stories of the long two-hour journey by boat and foot to reach Belize’s remotest village, Graham Creek in Southern Belize.
The Toledo District Health Services issued a statement today thanking the Belize Coast Guard for their assistance and efforts to assist Graham Creek to have access to health services.
The Toledo District Health Services gave special mention to nurse Mauricio Ack, who has been walking during dry and rainy season for 3 hours every 8 to 10 weeks to visit the village for the last 30 years.
Nurse Ack is the first male Registered Health Nurse in Belize.
“Nurse Mauricio Ack says that this was the first less challenging and complicated trip he has had since accessing the village. The trip was reliable and safe as the doctor and nurses had protection which they normally don’t in remote areas of the country and assistance to carry equipment needed to provide care to people,” Toledo district health services.
The Toledo Health Services thank the frontline workers from all areas for their service, sacrifice and dedication.
