Bahamas, Trinidad and Tobago qualify to quarterfinals at 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago qualified to quarterfinals at 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship in Costa Rica, by virtue of being the two best 3rd place teams.

Belize finished third in Group A, but the Caribbean teams had the advantage of being in four-team groups and were able to come up with a win each to give them the nod over our team which lost both games.

In Group B, El Salvador won its third straight match beating the Bahamas 7-2 at the Sports Complex Fedefutbol-Plycem in Alajuela.  Ruben Batres and Francisco Velasquez scored two each. Eliodoro Portillo, Exon Perdomo and Jason Urbina scored the other three.

Lesly St. Fleur scored the Bahamas’ brace.

By virtue of their win over the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas qualified as one of the two best 3rd place teams in the tournament.

Guatemala routed the Dominican Republic 10-1 That win gave Guatemala the second spot behind El Salvador and qualified them to the quarterfinals as well. Pablo Crocker and Juan Flores scored braces for Guatemala while Wilson González, William Álvarez, Ángel Sáenz, Leandro Báchez, Miguel González and Edwin López had one each. Inoel Navarro converted the Dominican Republic’s lone tally.

In the only remaining match in Group A, Mexico took down Panama 5-3. Both teams qualified with Mexico topping the group.

Cristofher Castillo and Jair Aleman had a brace each while Diego Rodríguez scored one. Eliécer García, Alfonso Maquensi and José Escobar netted one apiece for Panama.

In Group C, Trinidad and Tobago defeated Turks and Caicos Islands 7-5 nailing 3rd place and a ticket to the quarterfinals. Jabari Gray, Shallun Bobb and Dominic McDougall scored a brace each while Ryan Augustine converted the other goal. Herby Magny got two for Turks and Caicos Islands. Ledson Jerome, Jeff Beljour and Alex Bryan struck the other three.

Costa Rica got past the United States 5-4 to claim first place in Group C undefeated with nine points. Both teams booked a place in the quarterfinals. Greivin Pacheco converted a hat trick, while Christian Sánchez and Frandert Arrieta fired in the other two for Costa Rica. Christopher Toth, Jason Santos, Gabriel Silveira and Christopher Albiston netted one each for the US.

Mexico and Panama qualified from Group A, El Salvador, Guatemala and the Bahamas from Group B and Costa Rica, the United States and Trinidad and Tobago from Group C.

The quarterfinals will be play tomorrow Friday.
