By Aaron Humes: A numerically small but economically important sector of Belizeans is joining the COVID-19 vaccination drive in a major way.
On Wednesday, members of the Belize-Chinese community were lining up for three-dose Chinese vaccine, Sinopharm, which has been made available here.
Belize Chinese Association President Johnson Ou told Channel 7 News that his community feels most comfortable with a product “made in China:” “it’s Chinese so they read more about it and they hear more about it. That makes them confident…. we saved a lot of work on that part because they did their own study, so they know about the vaccine so we save a lot of work.”
Ou added that the vaccine is free for everybody as provided by the government, but there was a special arrangement made for Chinese ethnic Belizeans, “It’s due mainly to the language barrier. So, the help staff needs certain information so we are here BCA is here as a translator and to help out the process, to make it faster and smoother.”
Ou himself pledged to get the jab after his work day is done.
Close to 10,000 Belizeans have been jabbed since March, by Ministry of Health and Wellness figures.
