By Zoila Palma: The Indian Government has told social media giants to remove any content that refers to the “Indian variant” of COVID-19, BBC reports.
In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) has listed the variant as B.1.617.
Since late March, the nation has been hit by a deadly second wave prompting international concern as its hospitals became filled- to capacity.
Countries also sent oxygen concentrators to assist in the country’s COVID-19 response.
COVID-19 deaths in India are close to 300,000.
A Government order issued on Friday asked platforms to remove all content that names or refers to “Indian variant”.
