Posted: Monday, May 24, 2021. 2:45 pm CST.

By Zoila Palma: The COVID-19 vaccination campaigns continue worldwide with more than 1.6 billion vaccine doses being administered in 176 countries, Bloomberg reports.

The latest rate is at 28 million doses administered per day.

The United States of America is leading the way in the total vaccine doses administered with a daily rate of 1.78 million doses being administered daily.

There is still a large gap between vaccination programs in several countries.

The data on Worldwide vaccination is compiled from Our World in Data project at the University of Oxford.

Countries who have received the COVID-19 vaccines have focused on priority groups including those clinically vulnerable and elderly.

Lower-income countries are fully relying on the World Health Organization’s COVAX facility for access to vaccines.

In addition, 83% of those shots administered have been in high and upper-middle income countries and only 0.3% in low-income countries.

Most of the COVID-19 vaccines require 2 doses to be fully vaccinated.

The international community continues to monitor the pandemic situation in India where COVID-19 deaths has surpassed 300,000.
