Over 167 million COVID-19 infections reported globally

By Benjamin Flowers: As year two of the COVID-19 global pandemic moves along, the number of reported infections from around the world has climbed above 167 million according to Worldometer.

As of 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021, the total for reported cases globally stood at 167,653,596.

There were over 15.4 million active cases, with 97,802 (0.6 percent) of those cases listed as serious/critical.

The total number of recoveries from the virus now stands at  148,687,724, which represents a recovery rate of 98 percent of all closed cases.

Notably, 2 percent of closed cases (3,480,642) have died from COVID-19.

The United States continues as the hardest-hit country in the world by the pandemic, has recorded over 33.8 million cases and 604,089 deaths.

India, the second-hardest-hit country by number of cases, has recorded over 26.7 million cases and 304,338 deaths.

Brazil, the third-hardest-hit country by number of cases still has the second-highest death toll. Brazil has recorded over 16.08 million cases and 449,185 deaths.
