Public Service Union says strike continues, considers telethon in lieu of docked salaries

Posted: Monday, May 24, 2021. 10:30 pm CST.

By BBN Staff: The Public Service Union (PSU), via its official Facebook page, tonight updated its membership that “we will continue with the ongoing strike action.”

According to the PSU, it polled its members and 92% agreed to keep the trade dispute going while only 65% agreed the strike should continue. Still, the PSU says its membership remains resolved to continue strike action against the 10% salary cut and to push for good governance reforms.

The PSU also noted that private citizens and organizations have suggested holding a telethon to assist public officers and teachers who are currently engaged in strike action with a small financial contribution considering “GOB’s threats to cut salaries for both public officers and teachers who are exercising their right to strike.”

The union also encouraged its members not taking part in the strike, to continue supporting their cause by engaging in actions such as go-slow and work-to-rule, which includes refusing to work any overtime.
