PUMA Energy claims panic buying led to rundown of gas stocks

Posted: Tuesday, May 25, 2021. 3:20 pm CST.

By Aaron Humes: PUMA Energy, chief importers and retailers of gasoline in and for Belize, says a combination of factors led to the run on gas that continues today.

In a statement, the company explains that because of weather conditions in the Gulf of Mexico, impacted by a storm, the country’s supply was delayed and overland delivery by truck was resorted to.

This was exacerbated by panic buying by consumers that caused supplies to run low and in some cases, out.

That supply is currently being replenished and with the tanker arriving on Wednesday, supply should return to normal by Thursday.

Unspoken was that no increase in prices has been announced.
