By Aaron Humes: The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is rumbling into gear fr the 2021 hurricane season.
An updated list of shelters is being prepared and the regional committees are meeting this week, as well training for public officers has begun.
Prepare your family emergency plan, including allowances for COVID-19.
NEMO Coordinator Shelton Defour points out that people should especially listen to their radio and television on weekends as in his experience that is when most of the threats come.
And he has this handy tip for securing your roof during a hurricane: get special hurricane clips from your local hardware store for just 2 dollars each – a small price to pay to secure your dwelling.
Defour notes that the result otherwise is as happened after Hurricane Earl in 2016: more than 2,500 roofs needed repair and 311 total houses to be rebuilt, many of which did not have the special hurricane clips.
Be prepared!
