By Aaron Humes: Several Bills will be introduced at today’s session of the House of Representatives, which is underway.
The Income and Business Tax Act will be amended “to enhance Belize’s competitiveness and stimulate renewed growth in the international financial services sector,” etc.; the Court of Appeal Act to expand the composition of the Court; the Protected Disclosure Bill, “to combat corruption and other wrongdoing by encouraging and facilitating disclosures of improper conduct in the public and private sector; to protect persons making those disclosures from detrimental action; to regulate the receiving, investigating or otherwise dealing with disclosures of improper conduct,” and a Public Sector Emoluments and Allowances Reduction Bill, which proposes to “provide, in the public interest, for the reduction in salaries and allowances of certain persons appointed to hold a public office having regard to the deteriorated state of public finances;” and other matter connected therewith and incidental thereto.
There will also be statements by Ministers and a motion which we will tell you more about later.
