By Zoila Palma: The global vaccine delivery through COVAX is delayed due to the crisis in India.
The COVAX vaccine sharing facility now urgently needs 190 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of June to fill the gap, Reuters report.
“We need an additional $2 billion to lift coverage in (advance market countries) up to nearly 30%, and we need it by June 2 to lock in supplies now so that doses can be delivered through 2021, and into early 2022,” the World Health Organization said in a statement.
There is a call for wealthier nations that have active vaccination campaigns and where cases have declined to share vaccine doses.
“At least one billion doses could be shared by wealthy countries in 2021,” it said.
