By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The Football Federation of Belize (FFB) said today that the Belize Men’s National Football Team (BMNT) “arrived safely in Nicaragua and have checked into their hotel.”
The BMNT traveled to Nicaragua by road for their World Cup Qualifier on Friday, June 4, against Nicaragua in Managua.
“We applaud the Jaguars for taking this journey and representing Belize in their upcoming match in Managua, Nicaragua on Friday, June 4th,2021,” said the FFB.
The FFB also said that before they left, “all players and technical staff were tested and produced negative covid tests. To ensure the safety of our players, the two drivers on the trip also produced negative tests.”
The BMNT left by road on Sunday, May 30, after the FFB couldn’t get a flight for them to Nicaragua.
The FFB said: “The [Belize] Jaguars left by road through the Belize-Guatemala border in a luxury liner with spacious, comfortable seating and bathroom on a journey that took 25 hours. Their trip included three food stops and delays at borders which totaled 6 hours.”
The FFB said the BMNT would rest today and acclimatize and then would train the next two days before their official training at the Managua National Stadium on Thursday before their World Cup match on Friday.
“The team is united, determined, and in good spirits,” said the FFB. “We take this opportunity to invite Belizeans home and abroad to continue showing their love and support to the Jaguars as they represent Belize in their third match of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.”
