By Zoila Palma: Blanca has just become the second named storm of the 2021 hurricane season.
As of this afternoon, the center of Blanca was located about 520 miles (840 km) south-southwest of Cabo Corrientes, Mexico.
Blanca is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h).
A slower west-northwestward to northwestward motion is expected to occur during the next few days.
Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with higher gusts.
Blanca is a small tropical cyclone.
The National Hurricane Center says that additional strengthening is expected to occur tonight and Tuesday, followed by slow weakening on Wednesday and Thursday.
