Forest Department says lightning struck causing damage near Pavilion at Rio On Pools, urges against vandalism

Posted: Wednesday, June 2, 2021. 9:55 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: The Forest Department says that it was made aware of a Facebook post which referred to possible acts of vandalism and the improper disposal of garbage at the Rio On Pools Pavilion.

However, during its investigation, the department learned that the damages were a result of a lightning strike in the immediate area of the Pavilion.

The department notes that the damages are not man-made and are consistent with that of a lightning strike.

The Forest Department urges the public to refrain from any act of vandalism to installed facilities within the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve.

The public is also reminded to refrain from littering and to remove any garbage produced during your visit to the protected area.
