Social Security celebrates 40th anniversary

By Zoila Palma: On June 1, the Social Security Board (SSB) commemorated 40 years of service to Belize.

The Board will host a series of activities and events over the next few months to give back to the community.

SSB noted that in realizing the challenges faced due to the pandemic, the Board will kick off the 40th Year with the launch of a skills initiative to empower forty members of our Belizean communities.

SBB says that it is renewed in its commitment to expand services to the online domain and provide enhanced customer service and support.

 The SSB mission remains: “to deliver a customer centred and financially sustainable Social Security Program that provides lifetime coverage to our beneficiaries.”

The public is invited to join in the activities:

• June 1st Babies – Celebrating new mothers and their babies born countrywide on SSB’s Anniversary
• Empowering 40 – An initiative to empower forty (40) Belizeans who became unemployed due to Covid-19 with vocational training.
• New Facebook Live Segment – To engage the general public using social media to inform our audience on SSB’s services, core functions and other updates.
• Inauguration of David L. Mckoy Business Centre – The official opening of an SSB Investment project that promises to attract additional revenue to the Fund.
• Launch of Biometrics – Fingerprint recognition service to become available for the collection of fingerprint data for future use and service enhancements.

“A sincere thank you to our employees, contributors, stakeholders and their families for all that we have achieved together these past forty years. We are excited and look forward to what lies ahead for the next forty years and more,” a statement from SSB said.
