China’s Sinopharm can provide over 1 billion COVID-19 shots to globe

By Zoila Palma: China’s National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) is able to provide over 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine shots beyond China this year, Reuters reports.

The company’s chair, Liu Jingzhen said that the annual production capacity exceeds 5 billion doses.

In addition, the company has agreed to provide COVID-19 shots to the World Health Organization’s COVAX program.

To date, 2 vaccines from Sinopharm are being used in China, one of which has gained emergency use approval from the World Health Organization.

A third shot is also being tested in early-stage clinical trial.

Earlier this year, China had promised to provide 10 million vaccine doses to COVAX.
