By Zoila Palma: Today, Minister of Health and Wellness, Michel Chebat, and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Deysi Mendez hosted Dr. David Rodriguez, the Executive Secretariat of the Council of Ministers of Health of Central America (SE-COMISCA) and Dr. Mariangeli Freitas, Technical advisor, and an Infectious disease specialist at the regional office for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
Dr. Rodriguez is the principal investigator of the Cooperative Agreement of Global Health within COMISCA based in El Salvador.
Dr. Freitas is the Technical Advisor and an Infectious Disease Specialist at the Regional Office Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is based in Guatemala.
The Ministry says that both doctors are in Belize to conduct training and support implementing the first cohort of Frontline Training Under the Field Epidemiology Training Program (FETP) piloting the One Health Approach.
Participating in these training sessions are sectors from the Kolbe Foundation, Belize Defense Force, Animal Health, and Representatives from the Ministry of Health.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness says that it is grateful for the Global Health Cooperative Agreement with COMISCA for the continuous support in strengthening regional health security in public health laboratories, epidemiological surveillance, human resources development, response to health emergencies, and implementation of International Health Regulations (IHR).
