Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance visits sporting facilities in San Ignacio and Santa Elena

By Zoila Palma: Today, the Minister of Youth, Sports and E-Governance, Kevin Bernard continued his tour in San Ignacio and Santa Elena.

Minister Bernard says that the ministry aims to prioritize team work, collaboration and partnership as a means to achieve their goals.

Minister Bernard said that through a recent partnership with Beltraide and E-Governance Director, Alexis Peralta, will provide each Department of Youth Services (DYS) center countywide to serve as virtual training rooms.

Minister Bernard said that the activities must positively impact the lives of young people.

Director of youth, Kevin Cadle, shared that they are putting forth a cabinet paper that will ask each ministry to put a small portion of their budget to contribute to youth. He expressed that the Department of Youth Services will be leading the charge as the leading youth service provider for youth development.

Next week, a Youth Needs Assessment will be conducted that will pave the way to future services provided for young people.

Ian Cal, director of sports noted that they have been using COVID-19 as a reset button to move forward and relearn what needs to be done to develop sports better in Belize.

Other leaders present at the opening of the tour were Michel Chebat (Minister of Health and Wellness), Orlando Habet (Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management), Alex Balona (Area Rep for Cayo Central).

Also in attendance were CEO Jose Urbina (Ministry of Youth Sports and E-Governance), Earl Trapp ( Mayor San Ignacio/Santa Elena) and Jahmor Lopez (Manager for District Edication Center, Santa Elena Cayo).

The delegation visited the Santa Elena Sports complex, the Norman Broaster stadium and the Department of Youth services offices.
