By Zoila Palma: Today, the United States Government and UNICEF Belize donated sanitization stands and hand sanitizers to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology.
The U.S. Embassy says that the U.S. Government’s role in the donation is a part of a broader U.S. commitment to help lead the global effort to confront the COVID-19 pandemic around the world.
The United States has already committed $4 billion to support COVAX, and have launched partnerships to boost global capacity to manufacture more vaccines.
In May, U.S. President Joe Biden announced that by the end of June, the United States will share 80 million doses of their vaccine supply with the world.
On June 3, the White House announced that it would allocate at least 75 percent of the first 25 million doses of vaccines —nearly 19 million—through COVAX, including approximately 6 million doses for Latin America and the Caribbean.
