More than 2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses administered around the world

By Zoila Palma: The COVID-19 vaccination campaign has crossed a big milestone with over 2.15 billion vaccine doses administered around the world.

The latest rate is at 38 million doses administered per day.

Experts say that at the current rate, it would take another year to achieve some form of global immunity to COVID-19.

There is still a large gap between vaccination programs in several countries and the World Health Organization continue to urge wealthier nations to share vaccine doses.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced that by the end of June, the United States will share 80 million doses of their vaccine supply with the world.

Countries that have received the COVID-19 vaccines have focused on priority groups including those clinically vulnerable and elderly.

Lower-income countries are fully relying on the World Health Organization’s COVAX facility for access to vaccines.

Most of the COVID-19 vaccines require 2 doses to be fully vaccinated.
