World Health Organization says high vaccination rates can reduce risk of variants

By Zoila Palma: Officials from the World Health Organization (WHO) have indicated that high vaccination rates can reduce the risk of COVID-19 variants, ABC news report.

Dr. Micheal Ryan, emergencies chief at WHO said that high vaccination rates is the way out of the pandemic.

Wealthier nations have now moved to vaccinate teens and children in addition to their adult vaccination programs.

Those countries are now urged to share their vaccine doses with low-income countries.

Ryan says that to be on the safe side, high levels of vaccinations would reduce the risks of more transmissible variants.

WHO’s Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus called on leaders of the developed Group of Seven countries to assist COVAX, the vaccine sharing scheme.

In addition, Tedros said that manufacturers can commit half of their volumes to COVAX.
