Schools conducting face-to-face instruction to close classes on June 18

Posted: Wednesday, June 9, 2021. 10:00 am CST.

By Zoila Palma: Today, the Ministry of Education issued a memo informing that out of an abundance of caution, all schools are required to close classes for face-to-face instruction on June 18 for the academic year 2020-2021.

The decision was made by the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

Since 352 schools in Belize have been greenlighted for full face-to-face instruction to resume in September, the Ministry will continue to conduct school inspections.

The Ministry noted that the option of testing every teacher before the reopening of classes is not feasible at this time and since it is already the end of the academic year 2020-2021, there lies uncertainty of whether teachers have been exposed.

In addition, the Ministry of Health and Wellness will conduct random testing and offer vaccinations to teachers at their schools.
