By Zoila Palma: There are now 126 active cases of COVID-19 in Belize. Today, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported 8 new cases of COVID-19. New cases are being reported daily.

It begs the question, have we let our guards down by failing to wear our masks, by gathering socially and knowing that the virus is still out there?

To date, 3 patients are hospitalized and 2 remain admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.

The COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues countrywide with the AstraZeneca and Sinopharm vaccines.

However, as of June 4, just over 12,000 people were fully vaccinated.

The data noted that the total number of people vaccinated so far is 67,851 or just about 17% of the population.

The Ministry’s vaccination campaign has seen nurses and health professionals visiting educational institutions as well as businesses to facilitate the administering of the vaccine to as many people as possible.

The public is urged to visit their nearest health center and get vaccinated.

And a gentle reminder, even if vaccinated, it is advisable to wear your masks and maintain social distancing.
