By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Rossy Guardado won a bronze medal for Belize in the Under 14 Girls Category at the Central American Cross Country Championship in Esquipulas, Guatemala today.

In the Senior Open Category, Ana Lopez-Camp finished in the fourth position in the Women’s 10K while Brandon Adolphus completed the Men’s 12K run in 5th place.

Melisa Alejandra Reyes of Guatemala won the U14 in 7 minutes and 36 seconds. Antonella Lanuzza of Costa Rica won silver in 8:13. Guardado got the bronze in 8:59. Latisha Ramirez finished 5th and Tridean Martinez 6th.

Vivianna Aroche of Guatemala won gold in the Women’s Senior 10K in 40:52.00. Sandra Raxón of Guatemala got silver and Priscila Solis of Costa Rica was 3rd. Ana Lopez-Camp was 4th in 46.45 and Irene Thiessen 5th in 55:58.00.

“It’s my first time, this is new to me, I learnt a lot, that I have to prepare better, the girls are very strong, but I’m happy to have represented my country Belize. I thank the sponsors who made it possible for us to be here and I thank my family and my son whose birthday is tomorrow,” Ana Lopez-Camp said to a local television station in Esquipulas.

In the Men’s Senior 12K, Guatemala’s Alberto González Méndez won gold in 31:52. He was followed by Guatemalan Jose González Sut and Costa RIcans Luis Castro and Erick Villalobos, in that order.

Adolphus was 5th in 39:29 and Amir Ramos 6th in 46.21.

“Started off good, the elevation, I didn’t really feel the elevation, but from the 3rd kilometer to the eighth I had a pain in my chest, I struggled with it, the more I tried to pick up the pace the more the ‘cut-wind’ got tighter and tighter, but I honestly feel satisfied with my time, with my performance because I did a better time than what I did in Honduras last year. Not close to my personal best, but I’m happy that I gave it all, I never left anything in the tank, I just gave it everything I had,” said Adolphus.

Adolphus said his personal best is 34:97 though he has clocked better times in training.

In other categories, Kaylin Monterroso was 6th and Keely Faux 7th in the Girls U-16 2K, while Jada Logan 5th in the Girls U-18 4K.
