Nicole Gallego is the new National Time Trial Cycling Champion, Kaya Cattouse rides injured

By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Nicole Gallego of the M&M Engineering Cycling Team won the National Time Trial Championship held on the John Smith Road on Sunday morning.

“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it,” wrote Gallego on social media. “Huge thank you to team up M&M and my biggest fan Eddie.”

The race started and ended by the Western Pines junction on the John Smith. The race made one lap on the John Smith which stretches from the Philip Goldson International Airport Road roundabout to the George Price Highway Mile-8 roundabout.

Gallego clocked 26:49 beating 2019 champion Kaya Cattouse who clocked 28:04.

Alicia Thompson was 3rd in 28:20.

Junior winner Gabrielle Gabourel was fourth with a time of 29:36.

Kaya suffered cuts and bruises during a multiple-rider spill during the C-Ray’s Thursday Race on the John Smith Road and did not decide to race until this morning.

“Got a couple stitches in my elbow and an injury to the acromio clavicular joint (shoulder) … not the easiest injuries to tackle that time trial position. Let’s see if a good night’s rest will make some difference,” wrote on Saturday night on social media.

Last year, Gallego was second to Kaya in both the National Time Trial and the National Road Race.

The National Road Race will be held this coming Sunday, June 20.
