By Rubén Morales Iglesias: El Salvador and Canada qualified rather comfortably but Panama suffered to advance to Round 2 of the Concacaf World Cup Qualifying for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
El Salvador who had blown out Saint Kitts and Nevis (SKN) 4-0 on Saturday, beat SKN 2-0 on Tuesday night to advance on a more than comfortable 6-0 aggregate score.
Joshua Pérez in the 24’ and Gerson Mayén in the 87’ gave El Salvador the 2-0 at Estadio Cuscatlán in San Salvador.
The Salvadorans could have had another goal, but Nelson Bonilla sent the ball over the crossbar off a penalty kick in the 51’.
Canada who had edged Haiti 1-0 at the Stade Sylvio Cator in Port-au-Prince, dropped the Caribbean side 3-0 at the Seatgeek Stadium in Chicago, United States. Canada played their home game in the US because of the COVID-19 travel restrictions imposed by its government.
Canada got a gift from Haiti’s goalkeeper in the 46’ as he scored in his own goal. Cyle Larin, who had scored the lone goal in Haiti, scored Canada’s second in the 74’ before Junior Hoilett put it away in the 89’.
In the third match, Panama suffered their way through a 0-0 draw against Curacao at Wilemstad but it was enough to qualify them to the 2nd round on three points and a 2-1 aggregate.
