By Zoila Palma: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring a broad area of low pressure over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico that has a 90 percent chance of formation within the next 48 hours.

The disturbance is producing widespread but disorganized cloudiness, showers, and thunderstorms.

A tropical or subtropical depression is likely to form over the west-central Gulf of Mexico tonight or early Friday.

Heavy rainfall will continue over portions of Central America and southern Mexico during the next few days.

The public is reminded to activate their hurricane preparedness plans.
