By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Still recovering from injuries to her elbow and shoulders suffered on the John Smith Road during the C-Ray’s Full Throttle Thursday Race on June 8, 2019, National Road Champion Kaya Cattouse is ready to defender her title.

“The stitches in my elbow set flush in the TT bars. That coupled with the shoulder injury…pain galore,” she said last Sunday after losing her Time Trial championship to Nicole Gallego who this Sunday will surely want to make it two in a row.

Alicia Thompson is also gunning to take back the championship she won in 2018 when she relegated Kaya to the second position.

In 2019, the last time the National Road Championship race was run, Kaya clocked 3:00:52. Gallego finished 5:05 behind.

Thompson did not ride in 2019.

The Women’s Road Race Championship which starts on the Philip Goldson Highway at the Crooked Tree Junction (Mile 31) at 8:20 am on Sunday June 20 covers 57 miles.

“From Crooked Tree junction, it enters into the John Smith Road from the Philip Goldson Highway, goes through the Boom Road, enters the John Smith again and finishes where we did the time trial,” said Orson Butler, president of the Cycling Federation of Belize.
