By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gabrielle Gabourel of the C-Ray’s D. Banner Cycling Team is the Women’s Junior National Road Race Champion completing the 57-mile race in 3:14:27, the same time as overall bronze holder and National Time Trial Champion Nicole Gallego.
Gallego had a rough time shaking off Gabourel to take the third spot in the General Classification.
Though Gabourel had no opponent in her category, she is deserving of the Junior Championship as she stood her ground challenging the Elite riders, champion Alicia Thompson, ex-champion, her mentor Kaya Cattouse, and Gallego, and finishing a very respectable 4th overall place while challenging the Belize Time Trial champion all the way to the finish line.
The 57-mile National Road Race Championship started at the Crooked Tree junction (Mile 31) on the Philip Goldson Highway, turned right at Ladyville, went onto the Airport Road, the John Smith Road, the George Price Highway from Mile 8 to Hattieville, turning right on to the Boom Road, back to the Philip Goldson Highway and back to the John Smith, finishing just before the entrance to Western Paradise.
