Over 3,000 migrants stranded in Mexico were raped or assaulted

By Zoila Palma: A report released by a human rights group today indicated that almost 3,300 migrants that are stranded in Mexico were kidnapped, raped, trafficked, or assaulted.

The New York based Human Rights First Group documented cases of migrants and asylum seekers stuck in Mexico.

Reports say that the number of cases has soared in recent weeks and 500 cases were recorded in April to 3,300 by mid-June.

The U.S. administration has reportedly left in place a border expulsion policy that has seen over 400,000 migrants detained at or near the border have been expelled, including many Central American families and asylum seekers sent back to Mexico.

The report by Human Rights First was conducted from interviews with migrants seeking U.S. asylum and information from attorneys and human rights groups, Reuters report.
