By Zoila Palma: Former Belmopan Area Representative, John Saldivar , has issued a statement saying that neither himself nor Shyne Barrow will be the next leader of the UDP.
“The current sad situation in the UDP is not about Shyne Barrow nor John Saldivar, it’s about Patrick Faber and his fitness to lead our Party and country. Plain and simple. There are those who are prepared to once again pardon his behavior and that is their right, but for you UDPs who want to hate on those of us who will have no more of it, your double standard is hypocritical,” Saldivar said.
Saldivar continued by calling out UDP supporters who were ‘joyful’ when he was asked to step down as Leader-elect.
“To this day no evidence has ever emerged to prove that I did something wrong in accepting campaign financing from Lev Dermen. And if you say that my sin was not coming forward and disclosing that I had received monies in a system where disclosure is not required, then how does that measure up in your system of right and wrong compared to consistent allegations of gender-based violence and disrespect towards women,” Saldivar added.
Saldivar further called on women inside his party who are excusing Faber’s behavior and called out men in the UDP who he say are guilty of similar or worse behavior toward women.
Saldivar then directed himself to Faber, “Patrick and I are not friends, he made that very clear to me in front of all my Cabinet colleagues last year so what I say to him now is not as a friend but as a man who loves his Party. Step down Patrick, don’t put our Party through this, seek counseling for your aggressive behavior towards women, live to fight another day as I have done.”
He ended by telling Faber that the “damage” is done and it is Faber’s fault.
